UEFA Champions League betting tip: Celtic FC- Anderlecht
The Scottish champions were humiliated in their previous home group game, losing 5-0 to a very good Paris St Germain side, but they were without Moussa Dembele and Dedryck Boyata for that, so can at least tell themselves they were under strength. They got back on track with a 3-0 win away to Anderlecht which leaves them in pole position to reach the Europa League and I suspect that was the aim when they were drawn in a group containing both PSG and Bayern. That lifts the pressure quite a lot, they can relax and they have given themselves as good a chance as possible this evening to do themselves justice, they rested several players at the weekend and Celtic home and away are very different animals. They beat Astana 5-0 in qualifying, drew 3-3 with Manchester City last season and have some big scalps here in Glasgow in the past and the stadium has a very special atmosphere on these European nights.
Bayern do not look their usual selves, they have twice blown two goals leads in the Bundesliga and were giving a football lesson away to PSG and that cost Carlo Ancelotti his job, with Jupp Heynckes returning for a fourth time to take charge. A win tonight will secure progression, but a point would not be bad, Heynckes has however virtually said that priority has been given to the weekend trip to Dortmund and there is a chance that the visitors are underestimating Celtic, or it might just mean they have few options. They are without Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller and, with Kwasi Okyere Wriedt who replaced Lewandowski at the weekend not registered for the Champions League, Bayern have included under-19 forward Manuel Wintzheimer in the squad, which is also missing goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and Franck Ribery, with one or two others carrying knocks and subject to late tests. Still plenty of quality in the away side , Thiago, Robben, Vidal, James etc etc but they might be forced to go with a "false 9", however they will get space as Celtic can only play one way and that is almost solely on the front foot. BTS at least once, probably still a Bayern win, lets say 2-3, if there is a shock, it will most likely be a high scoring draw. Bayern won 2-1 at PSV, lost 3-2 at Rostov in November last year at this same stage of the competition.
