France Ligue 2: Laval- Arles
I favour goals here and can see no reason for either team sitting back for too long. Laval are strong at home, where their games have averaged 2.5 goals, are in upper mid table with a slim chance of a late promotion push, but in no danger of relegation, there is absolutely no point in them settling for a draw . Arles are buoyed by a win over highflying Brest last week, but are still seven points from safety and will surely gamble today and risk one to win three.
The hosts did us a favour here at the end of last month edging out the league leaders 2-1 , ahead of which I wrote .....
Laval let us down last week at Creteil, but are strong at home, at least in terms of avoiding defeat (4-6-0) and did us a favour in their last home game, with a defeat of another promotion challenging team in Dijon. they are a perfect 0-10-0 at home in the first half, drawing all ten starts, this gives them a platform on which to build, ensures they are not chasing the game and that is half the battle when facing Troyes. The league leaders have led at the break in 5 of their 6 away wins and have only won one of the four when they have not led at half time. Troyes have a seven point lead at the top of the table and nine over the 4th placed team, allowing for goal difference those figures are really 8 and 10 respectively and they are coasting towards Ligue 1. However, they are now in a dangerous stage of the season, when concentration could slip and focus will be more acute when they are facing the more obvious promotion rivals, as in their last two home starts, Brest and Sochaux, this is a potential banana skin and a venue where they have struggled in the past. Laval did the double over Troyes last season and drew the reverse fixture 0-0 this time round and I am going to take a chance on the hosts, drawn as much by the big odds on the level ball quote as anything else. This is my "upset" of the day in Ligue 2.
I see a similar scoreline today, they won the reverse fixture 3-2 and five of the last seven h2h meetings here have gone "over", the hosts are without ever present keeper Lionel Cappone who is suspended, replacement Maxime Hautbois has made just two appearances across two seasons and conceded twice in each. Arles scored twice in their last away start, despite playing much with ten men, their away games have averaged 2.54 goals and they can play a part in what I feel will ultimately become a very open encounter. they arrive without defensive midfielder Hugo Rodriguez and they have conceded twice in both away starts he has missed this season.
1.5 units "over" 2.25 goals 2.17 asian line/Sportmarket.
