Fortunately, we have been almost able to set the clock for when Lyon have scored in their last two starts, writing ahead of their midweek trip to Dijon ..............
Briefly, Lyon played on Friday night, so have had an extra 44 hours or so to rest, recover and plan and struggling Dijon also played two away games last week so have had a lot of disruption and travel. My notes on the OL home game went a lot like this .........
Lyon come out top 2 in all statistical categories and can go back to the top of Ligue 1 for a day or two with the win this evening and are priced accordingly. Bordeaux have won their last three (versus opponents with average league placing of 13.7) and are up to 7th, but a long way off top 4-5 pace and upper midtable feels about right. OL look a class above , but traditionally struggle big time in this fixture with just one win in nine h2h meetings in Lyon ! However, at half time in the last five they led in four (4-1-0), three by 1-0 !
That is of special interest as this season OL have an incredible goal difference of 15-5 between the 31st-45th minute with no other team scoring more than 8, add in that Bordeaux have conceded 13/22 away goals before the break and we have, IMO, the best way to approach this game.
OL in first half betting, to lead by one goal exactly at HT and first half "in running" lines all make plenty of appeal. I will personally be betting Lyon to win the first half at around the 20-25 minute mark, as long as they are not already ahead and still playing 11 v 11 for 1.5 units@ the usual ..........first line quoted at 2.20 +, but any of the suggested options feel good.
That could not have played out any better as Lyon took the lead in the 33rd minute and led by that single goal at the break. They also saw PSG lose at the weekend so know that the title race is well and truly on and have to find a way to collect the three points this evening. They have scored 12 goals on their last four visits here, winning three, the last two by 3-0 and 5-2 and in the most recent led 3-0 at half time. Dijon have a 1-10 goal difference between the 16th-30th minutes and within that are 0-4 at home, 0-5 between the 16th-45th. Lyon have a 16-5 goal difference between the 31st-45th and have scored 9 of 10 away goals in the first half after the 16th minute (2nd most in Ligue 1).
They scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute, but were 5-1 for BC's and worthy of a more emphatic victory. They remain second, 2 points behind Lille and one ahead of PSG and can ill afford any slip ups, but they do have a great chance of the title this season and still have to host the other two main contenders.
Strasbourg have been posting top 8 offensive numbers despite toying with the bottom 3 , but went on a great run to pull away from the drop zone, but they are now winless in three, all against bottom half of the table sides and have redeveloped some sloppy habits and OL should win this.
Lyon have won 8 of the last 9 h2h meetings as host, 7 wins along with a clean sheet and three by either 4-0 or 5-0.
We have arguably the best offensive unit in France versus a team who likes to play openly and with a terrible h2h record and lacking the motivation of the host and in a mini blip. Both teams have claimed they will rotate, but that only hands more of an edge to Lyon IMO, who have more strength in depth and better options to change things around.
