Ligue 2 : Le Havre- Nancy

Important match up between two of the bigger Ligue 2 teams, both of whom could move into 6th with the win.

They will each have to get out of a bit of a draw mindset to claim all three points , with Le Havre without a win in six (four draws) and Nancy having lost just once all season, but their record of 3-8-1 could be so much better.

I spoke a lot in early season about Le Havre striker Tino Kadewere and head coach Paul Le Guen (pictured)................

Le Havre do have a good recruitment team and the signing of Tino Kadewere from Djurgarden last season now looks super business, he made a slowish start to 18-19 but got injured shortly before/after his arrival, he has three goals in two starts this season and looks to be thriving as the main striker. He looks the real deal and Le Havre have goals in them.

Updating shortly afterwards with ........

In that I bigged up Tino Kadewere and he scored the opening goal in a 2-1 win, he followed up with two last week in a fantastic 3-1 come from behind win at Lens, the biggest club in Ligue 2 who were previously unbeaten and riding high and he has six goals for the campaign, one every 56 minutes played. That highlights the value of reading the full preview content. Anyway HAC look good right now and to be building up a head of steam under head coach Paul Le Guen, who was a very big deal early in his managerial career, but looking to rebuild it now. Rennes-Lyon-Rangers- PSG were his first four clubs, he could not take the latter to the next level, but we all know what happened after he left, then it was Cameroon- Oman-Nigeria (technical director)- Bursaspor and with limited success and the dreaded year out of the game after the latter. So don't let's doubt that he is super hungry to do well here, early signs are really promising, HAC have been knocking on the Ligue 1 door for so long that their knuckles must be bloodied but it will look very good on his CV if he can get them over the line.

The club is ambitious, they have a new training centre close to the city centre and have encouraged supporters to attend the sessions which they have done, 400 also went to Lens last week, a big number for L2 and confidence is sky high with players now au fait and happy with the change in formation that PLG introduced, the man loves a 4-4-2 ! But a modern variation of it and just wait, there will be a big return to it in football at some stage, anyway, it definitely suits the personnel here and teams are not that used to facing it.

The frontman now has nine goals, four more than anyone else in Ligue 2 and Le Havre are top of the table and scored 3 in each of their last three starts before the international break and will want to get back to that level of form immediately, having finally made the start to the campaign they have craved for so long.

Obviously the good run and to a degree the feel good factor has disappeared, the goals for Kadewere have dried up, which seems odd to say as he has 11 and 2 assists from 12 games, but 9/2 came from the first six starts, 2/0 from the last six and he has contributed to 13 of their 18 strikes, with only one other player on more than a single goal. Teams are also more used to the PLG set up now and it feels like HAC and the head coach need a bit of a freshen up/rethink. Their ITB numbers were not that of a top team, but have oddly improved a little recently, however, Nancy are an eye catching and very impressive +35 through their last five starts, which is as good as any Ligue 2 team and my comments about their potential from early in the campaign still hold true.................

Not in a hurry to overly discuss anyone, but we could take a quick look at Nancy, they were mentioned often as having traded well in January and as a big improver, they were 16 points better in the second half of the campaign and were coming from a very low position and short of confidence. They are a biggish club, played top flight football three seasons ago and were 4-5-1 in this league between 13/14 and 15/16, their budget is /was decent, they replaced Vagner with Ndoh ( see above) who scored freely in a struggling Niort team ( 12 goals fewer than Nancy in the second half of the campaign) and have signed a whole host of senior defensive players with huge and winning experience at this level.

Then, after a matchday 2 draw at Valenciennes I updated with ........Nancy will have been disappointed by that result, they "won" attempts 19-7, on target 8-1, big chances 5-0 and saves 0-7 and on most other days would have won with a degree of comfort. Inbetween those first two starts they have added Vagner Dias Goncalves ,Makhtar Gueye and Kenny Rocha Santos to the squad, all from St Etienne, the trio all know each other of course, which is a bonus, each played some part last week and should be more in sync with team mates today and I am expecting Nancy to kick on from this point.

As I started by saying it has not happened yet, but feels as though it is coming together and possible a good time to face Chambly who have made the 400km trip on the back of that first defeat.

They have posted some big numbers, more in line with a top 3 team and sooner or later will go on a lengthy winning run and get out of this cycle of draws.

This might be a good opportunity to start, they won 2-0 here late last season and Le Havre are missing a quartet of suspended players in Mayembo, Dina Ebimbe, Fontaine and Abdelli, with Bonnet and Lekhat injured, four of whom started, five who played in their most recent win . Away win .......0-2 .
