The "season ending" Tour Championship was won, fittingly, by Scottie Scheffler, who has dominated golf this year, which seems remarkable even to say in a season in which Xander Schauffele won two majors. Scheffler has won seven Tour titles, including his second green jacket at the Masters, becoming the first in history to defend the Players Championship (the 5th major), plus an Olympic gold medal. He has earned over $62m in prize money and bonus payments and probably has another $10m to come, all in addition to his multiple endorsements.

 

Scheffler has been the #1 ranked golfer in the world for 67 straight weeks ,102 overall which already ranks him 5th all time. With his points lead over 3rd ranked Rory McIlroy greater than the Ulsterman's advantage over any other golfer in the world, it is impossible to see the modest and even tempered Scheffler, for whom family and faith are more important than golf, losing his position anytime soon, especially as he has only just turned 28 years of age!

Collin Morikawa shot the lowest 72 hole score and beat Scheffler by one shot yesterday, Adam Scott finished in a tie for 4th, both of which were good for us. Viktor Hovland was T8 without the handicap start, solid, but no cigar for the Norwegian.

Not too long to wait for more PGA golf, as the Procore Championship, formerly the Fortinet Championship, the Safeway Open prior to that, gets underway on Thursday of next week!

We have the international break this week, many readers will know that these are a bugbear of mine and I find the first especially irksome, coming just two weeks into the new Bundesliga season and after only three rounds in the EPL, Serie A and Ligue 1 and, at the end of the transfer window, when players are not yet at full match fitness and/or adapting to new clubs.

However, on a brighter note, we do have the return of NFL football this week which gets underway with the Kickoff game on Thursday, when the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens in a rematch of the 2023 AFC Championship game which the Chiefs won 17-10, although that was held in Baltimore. A humdinger to get us started!
