NFL betting preview : New York Jets @ Buffalo Bills
Sep 15, 2016
Week 2 of the NFL starts tonight and I have written a few lines ( I do not want to say too much at this stage of the campaign) about the Jets trip to the Bills, which you can read below.
clubgowi numbers for NFL coming into this season were Stake 330 units Profit 53.69 ROI +16.27% , we covered four games in Week 1 ( three wins, one push), so have improved upon those and hopefully we can continue to do so this evening.
NFL: New York Jets @ Buffalo Bills
Key AFC East game , even at this stage of the season, with both having lost their opening game and already playing catch up with the Patriots who have won this division in 12 of the last 13 seasons !
That just gives the Pats a huge mental advantage and for either of these two to go 0-2 in a division where taking first will be very difficult, is going to leave a mountain to climb .
I discussed the reverse fixture last November, when I felt the Bills had a little more motivation ..........
Crunch game in the AFC East where these two are on 4-4 and 5-3 respectively, the Patriots are 8-0 and will be very difficult (impossible ?) to catch , but this year, with the Colts leading the South with a losing record and the only other non divisional leading team with a winning record being the Steelers, there is a real opportunity for both of these two to make the post season. Jets would be in a very strong position to do so , if they went to 6-3, but would not be out of things on 5-4, Bills would really like their chances on 5-4 , especially as it would be an incredible momentum builder after last weeks 33-17 win over the Dolphins, more of that shortly. Therefore we can make a case for today being more important to Buffalo, not least because they go to Foxborough to play the Patriots next week and 4-5 could quickly become 4-6 and they play a third consecutive road game after that, so today, is what I like to call a season defining game. If the Bills win, they can go to New England with confidence and who knows, maybe pull off an upset, they certainly look in better shape to do so now than they did a few days ago.
The Dolphins are pretty poor right now and can't stop anyone on the ground, but it was still noteworthy that TWO Buffalo running backs had 100 yard + games, LeSean McCoy ran for 112 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown , Karlos Williams posted 110 yards and two touchdowns , with quarterback Tyrod Taylor adding another 44 yards of his own, that's 266 yards, at a whopping average of 7.39 per carry. That says much about Miami, but also the threat that the Bills now post , Taylor was making his comeback after missing a couple of losses, the Bills are 4-2 with him as a starter, receiver Sammy Watkins also returned from injury and had eight catches for 168 yards and a TD. That is not all, after giving up 34 points in each of their last two starts, cornerback Leodis McKelvin also returned after missing the first seven games and his six tackles helped restrict the Dolphins to half that number. This is now the real Bills , not the fake imitation we have seen in recent weeks.
Buffalo coach Rex Ryan was in charge of the Jets for five years before being dismissed at the end of last year, he signed a $27m+ contract with the Bills 14 days later, so don't feel too sorry for him and I guess this is the one he really wants to win, he knows more about the Jets than any man alive, strengths and weaknesses and can guide his troops to a vital win.
The Bills did indeed win that 22-17 and when the two met again on the final day of the regular season here at the Ralph Wilson stadium, they won by the identical 22-17 scoreline. That meant they finished 8-8 for the season, not good enough to make the post season and that extended their post season drought to a record 16 seasons and it is clear they and the Pats do not know there is meant to be parity in the NFL ! That was not a bad first season for Ryan and his best season in NY was his second and he will be looking for something similar this year, they lost their opener that year too (to the Ravens)and then won 9 from 10.
Buffalo lost on opening day 13-7 in Baltimore if any further coincidences were needed, the Ravens put in an old school defensive performance that the Bills struggled with, but they had chances to draw level and were never out of the contest and will not meet a defense like that too often and will have learned from the experience. The local media has torn them apart for their offensive short comings in that game and the Bills will be pleased to have a short week to put things right, but that means if they don't, the press will have a full 10 days to really go to town. This is a big game for them and Ryan.
They did not put up big numbers in the two games with the Jets last year, so do not need huge yardage plays to win, their defense will keep them in this and I favour them to do enough to edge home and I think they should be favourites by a couple of points. Bills and Ryan own Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick ( his average game v Ryan is 13 of 28 passes for 165 yards with 1.4 touchdowns and one interception). and that will be key.

Good Luck.
