Inter have performed really well in these midweek Serie A fixtures, winning five of the last six, with the loss coming in what was really a meaningless fixture for them. This match is far from that and already four points off Champions League pace, they need a maximum return to put pressure on the top three, who play later in midweek.
Things can chage quickly in this league, a fortnight ago I wrote this ... I expect a big showing from Goias today, they are coming off a road win at Portuguesa, but had not won in three previously, including two at home and will want the safety cushion that three points will give them today, with two of their next three on the road and their next two home games looking far more difficult on paper.
Only really Ligue 2 in this email (sent to subscribers this morning), but I will pass on a few words about the Brentford-Shrewsbury Town, League 1 match tomorrow, the Bees are not playing well at present, but have managed to pick up six points in the last week. Coming from 1-0 down early in the second half at home to defeat Colchester United 3-1 last weekend and winning at Bristol City, for whom nothing is going right, 2-1 in midweek.
This is only the hosts third ever European campaign, the first was only six seasons ago, it ended with a first round UEFA Cup defeat and they only avoided relegation that year, by virue of Boavista being involved in match fixing. In 2009-10 ,they lost in qualifying in this competition to an Israeli team and again struggled in the league, there is a pattern evolving here by the way.
Chelsea have served us very well this season, we previewed their trip to Steaua on Matchday 2....These two met last March in the knockout stage of the Europa League, ahead of the second leg I wrote .... "Chelsea completely outplayed Manchester United for the last hour of the match at Old Trafford last week and were unfortunate not to have come away with the win. Rafael Benitez made the tactical changes and Sir Alex didn't react, with his team clearly losing the midfield battle.
Unfortunately Le Havre (see previous post) were unable to hold on to a 2-0 lead last night.
