I have already sent subscribers the first four of what seems likely to be nine match previews for today ( weekend schedule in previous post) and you can read one of them below. There is an explanation of how previews are set out in the "new subscriber update" and there is a link to that and a number of other "exciting" clubgowi articles/ videos etc at the very foot of this post, check them out !
Clermont lost at Evian in midweek, where I wrote ....
Clermont have been playing at a very high level since last March , unbeaten in league and cup this season, they finished last season on fire collecting 20 points over their final ten games , hauling themselves into mid table after looking in trouble, finally finishing as close to Nancy in 5th as they were to the drop zone. They have a big home game with Nancy this coming weekend, but after a fine win at Le Havre on Friday, it will surely be about keeping the momentum up and this is a team no longer used to losing.
These two met here in the league just 18 days ago, that ended 2-2 and I expected a similarly open free flowing game. However, having seen the team news, I am not so sure that Clermont have not now decided they have a good chance in Ligue 2 and are willing to let this match slide, they have rested four very key players in Avinel, Diedhiou , Djellabi and Dugimont and lost Salze to a six week injury. That weakens them at both ends of the pitch and Diedhiou not only scored both goals in the 2-2 draw here, but all four of the league goals that Clermont have managed this season. Saadi has returned up front, but he has not played in seven months, or scored since before Christmas, but he did have 11 goals in the first half of last season and if they can get him and Diedhiou both firing, they are going to take some stopping. But he will surely be rusty and Rivas has little real Ligue 2 experience and few starts/goals.
I have switched late from the "over" to the home win.
Evian won 3-2 , but Clermont battled till the end and goals for both Wesley Jobello and especially Saadi, who played 90 minutes ( see above) are hugely promising. Young Jobello now has three goals in two cup starts and Saadi is going to give great options to the offense in the coming months. He will not play tonight, that would be too much after such a long time out, but what his midweek contribution will do, is further concentrate to minds of Dugimont and Diedhiou who return to freshen up the squad , along with Djellabi and Avinel ( see all four above) and now, an already in form team, have real competition for places and plenty of options for coach Corinne Diacre (pictured).
Nancy also played in midweek at Bourg-en-Bresse Péronnas, where they played 120 minutes and lost in a penalty shoot out, they rotated quite heavily, but eight of the 14 who played in the last league game , featured to some degree or another. Their schedule has been gruelling, Nimes Saturday afternoon, Gueugnon Tuesday evening and Clermont on Friday is a lot of travelling with little time to rest, recupertae or prepare ,is bound to take a toll today and they simply cannot be as fresh as the hosts. Early season notes on the visitors can be found at the foot of this email, they have performed well in the league and I doubt the cup loss would have bothered them too much, but they ended up putting in more effort and using more starters than intended and I favour Clermont to edge this top of the table encounter.
