This is a league where a little money can go a long way and it is worth noting that of the top 5 teams, 3 have a top 4 budget and the five with the smallest operating finances are Chateauroux 8m euros ( placed 20th), Chambly 7.5 m (16th), Rodez 7.2m (19th), Dunkerque 7m (12th) and Pau 6.5 m (18th). Four of those five have also been promoted in the last two seasons and it has become increasingly difficult to thrive in the second tier coming up from National, without a little financial clout.
Those are worth repeating with the teams mentioned featuring heavily today.

Last weekend I previewed Châteauroux- Guingamp ...........
On Tuesday I noted ............ Guingamp have bucked the trend in that they are underperforming on a big budget, they have not won in 10 starts and they have not really adapted to Ligue 2 since relegation in 18-19 and many teams find that transition difficult.
They led twice and for an hour in total , but had to eventually settle for a share of the points with improving Amiens. That leaves them winless in 11 and in trouble, only four points above bottom of the table Chateauroux. The home side played away to leaders Troyes three days ago, they set up for 0-0 and were doing ok in that regard until conceding twice and having a player sent off all within the space of 7 minutes late in the game. In that contest they spent long periods without the ball as you might expect and only had two attempts on goal from ITB and one on target.
Today they are without suspended right back Jeremy Cordoval and Guingamp are strong on the flanks and have Bryan Pele back on the left, he will have noted the absence and the visitors named a very offensive looking group for today. They have scored twice in each of their last two starts and this is the scene of their biggest away performance in several seasons, winning 5-1 last season, when they recorded 20 attempts, 12 ITB, 10 on target, with 6 BC's and that should ensure they step off the team bus with positive memories today and that might be something they haven't had for some time. Chat have won just 1/12 themselves and given up 1.67 goals per game in that sequence and they should be some joy for Guingamp this evening.
Guingamp won 3-2 and were deserved winners and should have won more comfortably, numbers were good and they led 3-0 at one stage. The win will have done them good and they have scored 2+ goals in four of their last six starts, including away to two top 6 teams, if they could just tighten up a little at the back they might begin to climb the table, but they have conceded 15 goals in their last 7 starts and you could not favour them to keep a clean sheet against anyone at present.
They host Nancy who are just about the most frustrating team in world football (slight exaggeration possibly) and after scoring a last minute winner (with ten men) when we wanted them to draw two starts ago, they conceded a last minute equaliser to Rodez last time out when we wanted them to win ! Ahead of that I noted ..........
Nancy took part in a crazy game in midweek away to a Valenciennes team who had posted some decent recent numbers and ahead of which I wrote.............
Draws have been back on the increase in Ligue 2 and are running at almost 31% currently, the highest for several years. This has a share of the points written all over it, with Valenciennes having drawn 6 of their last 10 and 5/11 as host. Nancy have drawn 12/22 on the road and are scrapping for every point to stay above the drop zone.
I said "crazy" as Valenciennes led 2-0 and then Nancy had a player sent off with just 30 minutes remaining, they managed to pull it back to 2-2 and then scored an injury time winner ! 11 attempts ITB , 6 on target are big numbers on the road in Ligue 2 and they also had the better of possession, which is noteworthy playing a third of the game with 10 men. It was a great and confidence boosting performance and one they should surely look to build on today.
Rodez have not won since the end of September, going 0-7-6 subsequently, with 6 of their last 8 starts ending with the same 1-1 scoreline.They are bottom 3, two points back of Nancy and I suspect they might take another draw today if one were offered pre match and we can "cover" with that, but the home side should be buoyed by their midweek showing, are much the bigger of these two clubs with a budget double that of Rodez and if they play with the same commitment they showed three days ago, they should win.
On a quick turnaround this is a very long trip for Rodez to Nancy , some 8 hours by road and that is how I assume they will have made the trip.
Nancy games have seen both teams score at least twice in 4 of 6 starts and a repeat would not surprise, in fact it seems likely !
Châteauroux now travel to face Auxerre and I would have opposed them strongly but the home side have three starters absent through injury and suspension including top Ligue 2 goal scorer Mickael Le Bihan and icy cold weather and snow is forecast in the city today, so it will have to be a pass.
