Premier League: Arsenal- Tottenham Hotspur
I saw the Gunners play immediately before the international break, they won VERY easily at Lionel Road, Brentford were a total no show it has to be said, but Arsenal were good, extremely comfortable on the ball and at protecting it. However, they were hard to love and whilst I do understand game management when you are on the road and holding a narrow lead late, they were still falling to the ground at every challenge and time wasting 3-0 up with minutes remaining and I was disappointed to be honest, having always had a bit of a soft spot for them. They are back on television today in another lunchtime kickoff and a big one, the North London derby, with both teams top two in the EPL, Arsenal top, Tottenham a point worse off. The visitors are unbeaten (two draws), Arsenal lost away to Man United but impressed there and have won their other six starts, but I did write ahead of their trip to Brentford ............
Arsenal's last 10 starts have seen 35 goals, scoring 21, with BTS in 5/7.
The Gunners have looked great this season, but lost to the only top 9 team in the real or expected table they have faced and Brentford are 9th and 5th respectively, they also beat that same team (Manchester United) 4-0, so fair to say that this will be a test for the North London side (edit: it wasn't!) .
Tottenham's last start was a home game with Leicester City ahead of which I wrote ............
The last three h2h games have all been won by Tottenham , 3-1/3-2/4-2 two of those at the King Power. Tottenham are unbeaten in EPL starts and for the season until that 2-0 loss at Sporting Lisbon in midweek, the game was 0-0 entering added time and the North London side looked the more likely winner for much of the contest, so no need to be too unhappy, but it puts pressure on the next Champions League game and Spurs will want to bounce back today.
City have been pretty poor, they have just one point on board, are bottom of the table and I did give a preseason warning...........Is Brendan Rodgers on borrowed time ? He is still in charge, but cuts an increasingly isolated and ineffective figure on the sidelines and it is difficult to make a case for him lasting much longer. City do have goals in them and have scored eight this season, five in their three away starts, but concede for fun (16) and couldn't defend a set piece to save their life's . They have not kept a clean sheet in nine EPL starts, but have scored in eight of those and we can expect both trends and that five game losing streak to continue. Spurs have conceded in five of their last eight home wins.
I went with BTS and a home win at nice odds and Spurs won 6-2 which was perfect, but I have to say that the scoreline was flattering, it was 2-2 at the break, two goals came late and the goal rush included a wonderful hat-trick for Son from off the bench. Hugo Lloris the home goalkeeper kept his team in the game early, but when the dust had settled, Spurs had six goals, from 11 attempts on target and showed once again what we already knew, that they can be devastating on the break, we also got confirmation that Son was back, he looked unhappy on the bench and his performance almost dared Antonio Conte to leave him out again!
Arsenal are yet to keep a clean sheet at home, conceding to Fulham, Villa and twice to Leicester City . Tottenham have scored twice at Chelsea (4 BC's) and Forest (2.25 xGF and 11 attempts ITB) and you do feel they need to repeat that feat to get a result at the Emirates today, they have scored twice on 3/5 visits and good value to make it four in six.
