Consadole Sapporo- Oita Trinita
I was very strong on Consadole Sapporo for a recent home game with Shimizu S-Pulse ............
We have traditionally been able to rely on Shimizu S-Pulse for some entertainment and a few goals, but they have scored just 5 in 10 starts and none in their last two on the road, both against teams with "issues'. Last time out they lost 3-0 at home to a strong Nagoya Grampus side but only really created anything at all once the visitors scored their second and sat off them a little. They followed that with a 5-1 League Cup hammering at Yokohama F.Marinos, that competition means little, but 9 players played in both games and it is a tough week which ends with a very long trip north to Sapporo (1,200km). Consadole will be pleased to be back on home soil, as they have not hosted a JL-1 game since April 24, they have averaged 2.6 goals per home game (just 5 played) and faced three of the top six in the last four of those, so it is difficult to see them not registering at least two today and maybe more as they have scored 19 (!) in the last four h2h meetings, 10 here (5-1,5-2) and 9 in Shizuoka City.
They won that 2-0 and are actually now on an unbeaten run of 7 games in all competitions, we do not give much credence to League Cup form, but eliminating Marinos over two legs is at least worthy of a mention. In the three league meetings in that sequence they were very strong defensively and only gave up a total of 5 attempts on target and 2 BC's. Having already discussed how many chances they have been creating here in Sapporo against the stronger teams, it is hard not to see them beating struggling Oita today. The visitors numbers were actually not bad until recently, when they were battered at home by Marinos (whom Consadole have just beaten over two legs), the scoreline only said 0-1, but the stats read more like 0-4. Oita lost too many key players in the offseason, something we discussed earlier in the campaign and have already lost 10 times . Home win

Kashima Antlers- Vegalta Sendai
I ran some stats for the penultimate round before the international break ............
Last five game numbers alongside each team....... on target attempts, BC's and ITB , all created and conceded.
Nagoya 15-12 / 7-6 / 20-24
Vegalta 21-24 / 8-9 / 30-46
Also writing .........Vegalta are on the up at long last, or so it seems and you can see that they are creating more chances than Nagoya, which gives them a chance, but they have conceded twice as many. However, the visitors do seem to be picking up and improving game on game in that department and this is an easy pass.
Vegalta won that 1-0 and they have scored three goals and taken four points from Grampus and Frontale (the best team in Japan and probably Asia) in their last two away starts, which, considering how poor they have been and for so long is just incredible and there was no real good fortune about either result. However, they have played twice since returning from Nagoya, drawing 1-1 at home to Cerezo where they "lost" attempts on target 7-4 and BC's 4-1 and then losing at home to Grulla Morioka ( ?) a third tier team in the Emperor's Cup, a competition usually treated with respect.
Where does that leave us ! Vegalta are almost certainly improving, but still very much in transition and better and happier on the road.

Antlers could not hold onto their lead at Sagan Tosu over the weekend, but had been on fire prior to that and their last five game "on target" and ITB attempts are on a par with Frontale's numbers and considering they played three of the top five in that sequence, that is very impressive. All of Cerezo's six numbers ( both sides of the ball) are inferior to Antlers' and with the home side desperate to get back on track before they travel to face the runaway league leaders in a couple of days time , I favour the home win.
They deservedly won 1-0 and they went to Frontale and were 2-2 for BC's and 1-1 in the game as we entered the 95th minute, but Kawasaki scored a late, late winner. No shame in losing to them of course and Antlers won all three cup games over the break scoring 11 goals in the process, so a big confidence boost. They have to finish in the Champions League places and need to get back on track in the league and I favour them to find a way to edge this, but Vegalta are dangerous offensively and Antlers have conceded in 17/26 starts this season and that is a pretty high number for them.
