Taken from today's J-League notes .....
Apr 28, 2014
Bit too early, with just nine rounds played, to get bogged down with stats in J-League, but we are averaging 2.62 goals per game and in terms of 1X2, we are running at 36%-21%-43%, so a "mean" fixture comes out to circa 2.78- 4.76- 2.32. Not much home advantage so far and leaders Antlers are 1-0-3 at the Kashima Soccer Stadium , which is hard to believe.
This is the first midweek round of games of the new season and perhaps looking at how the four such rounds ( midweek fixtures, directly after a weekend round) played out last season is a better option and there are some really surprising numbers. With the 36 games averaging a whopping 3.583 goals, there was not a single 0-0 draw and only two produced just a single goal, 75 had at least three goals, almost 42% saw four or more ( three + each round) and a very high 28% at least five goals.
Stats, are a good starting point, especially when the numbers make sense for other reasons, which in this case, is that teams will have obviously prioritised their weekend game in terms of preparartion and are likely to be taking the field less well drilled for these very rare midweek rounds in Japan and a little fatigued, with it not really being the Japanese way to leave much on the pitch.
Anyway, if these games followed suit, in a 100% (non profit margin) book, over 2.5 goals would be 1.33, over 3.5 goals around 2.40 and over 4.5 goals 3.60.
If we call the Vegalta Sendai- Kawasaki Frontale the "average" match this round, it is the one which the asian oddsmakers have pitched at mid quotes and was chosen for no other reason, the quotes are a general 1.80, 3.0 and 6.0 respectively, so you can see that as a "starting point", the goal lines deserve further attention this round.
I was keen to stick with FC Tokyo, but their game is being played at the national stadium and not their home ground and whilst they are used to playing at the Olympic Stadium occasionally, that, combined with the very low quotes, are more than enough to put me off. Likewise, for all the reasons outlined on Friday, I feel Omiya Ardija are back in their bad place, but I just do not want to side with any home team (who are not playing Tokushima Vortis and even they showed a little second half life on Saturday) at ultra low odds in J-league right now, given the paucity of home wins.
I am going to start with an away selection in any case and one which might surprise some of you ....
